Designed by Hella Jongerius, 2005
Dutch designer Hella Jongerius chose for the Polder Sofa five carefully selected colour combinations and fabric qualities. Wooden frame with belt upholstery, backrest cushions: polyurethane chips and microfibres, textured surface and seat cushion: polyurethane foam and polyester wool, flexible armrest cushion with sand weights.
In Holland, 'Polder' refers to the artificial land reclaimed from the sea by the construction of dykes and canals. Inspired therefore by low-lying Dutch landscape, the sofa is low-lying with a supporting wooden frame and buttons of natural materials attached with high-tech yarn.
