Designer Kitchen & Bathroom Awards 2018

It's been an exciting week for us here at Sapphire Spaces, David won Bathroom Design of the Year in the over £15k category and we could not be more proud of him.

The Designer Kitchen & Bathroom Awards, held at the beautiful De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London, are one of the most prestigious in our Industry and receiving one is an absolute honour. Not only does it show recognition from some of the most regarded peers in Interior design and Architecture, many of whom act as judges in various categories, but it reminds us that even though we are based in Devon; we have some of the most wonderful and aspirational designers that work on beautiful and inspirational projects across the UK and into Europe.

The day started at 12 pm and Clara Perry, the Awards Director, opened the ceremony saying: "The 2018 Designer Awards were a complete sell-out and really bought home how important design is within the kitchen and bathroom industry."

Bathroom Design of the Year - Judges Thoughts

When we enter these awards, we don't know the Judges and we don't know the exact elements they will be judging us on; so it was particularly informative this year as kb-eye shared the judges' thoughts with us all.

Renee Mascari, Designer and Director or Mascari Design said: "With this particular category and with a slightly better budget it allows a bit more freedom of choice in terms of material, ergonomic space and quality of materials."

Alan Crawford, Architect and Founder of Crawford Partnership said: "I believe that the outright winner reflected many of the judges feelings on the way that bathrooms in this midrange could be designed, could be well designed and incorporate quality materials, quality appliances, use of both natural lighting and artificial lighting and in some instances smart home technology to achieve a lot for often quite a minimal price, so I think all these submissions are to be complemented, but one submission did shine out."

David's project, a Hidden Mobility Bathroom is not only an inspiration from a technical perspective but a futuristic look into how our bathrooms can be a place of design aesthetics and clever lines if we so choose.

Using Laufen Bathroom lighting and mirror products as well as Bard & Brazier, David was able to design a space for his clients that represented their dream as well as transform a small bathroom space into something both stunning and reactive to the clients' emotions.

"This bathroom design was a delight to work on, the transformation is incredible and I hope it is enjoyed for years to come. To then go and win the most respected award in our Industry, well that is just the cherry on the cake; I'm honoured to have had my design recognised in this manner."
