This month Sapphire designer-consultant Valerie M Lecompte and I have been lucky enough to spend 3 days at the bulthaup factory in Aich, Germany.......what an experience (writes Alex Newbery)!
Having heard Mark and Ross talk about their previous visits I knew we would have some long days ahead of us and our product knowledge would be tested so, despite Mark's reassurances, I couldn't help but feel a little nervous about this trip.
I needn't have worried, yes there were long days and yes we had to do some presentations and spend time in the classroom but in true bulthaup style this all came together in the most comfortable and thoughtful way.
We saw first-hand how these beautiful kitchens are made and have been truly inspired by what we saw. It was fascinating to see the Veneer Master at work - selecting his woods and assessing grain and pattern. We also learnt about the history of bulthaup, got to meet in person all the lovely employees we deal with on a daily basis and we even had a team cook-in one night.
We shared this experience with 8 other people from around the world whose passion and enthusiasm matched our own. And the icing on the cake? We now have open invitations to visit our bulthaup cousins in Belgium, America, The Lebanon and Malta....watch this space!
