Designed by Alvar Aalto 1935
Designed in 1935 by Alvar Aalto's and is said to be one of his favourite dining chairs.Using a distinctive L-leg design in order to attach its legs directly to the seat, the striking Chair 69 is both a design classic and a modern home staple. Chair 69 was originally designed by Aalto for the Viipuri Municipal Library. In 1927 Aalto won the planning competition for the library and the building was inaugurated in 1935. Beside planning the building, he also designed lamps, details of the interiors and furniture like the chair 69. The seat base and the backrest of this chair are wider and thus provide superior stability and everyday function. The chair remains a popular classic to this day.
